Colorado Assciation of Code Enforcement Officials

In Touch

December 2006

Rich and a Mountain Bike

This is my second State of the Association message since I took office two years ago. It has been another great year for our association, and I’ll outline a few of the accomplishments in a moment. First, let me remind you of our upcoming Annual Business and Training Meeting.

On December 1st, 2006, is our Annual Business and Training Meeting. At that meeting you’ll have the opportunity to elect new officers and Board members. Before you are nominated, or before you nominate someone, please understand that these Board positions are important and time-consuming. There will be 8 board meetings in 2007, 4 of which will be held during our 4 Quarterly Trainings. Because we have reduced the number of Board Meetings, Board members are expected to attend most if not all of those meetings. These meetings last at least 4 hours, so may take up most of a day if travel is involved – and it usually is. You should also get your supervisor’s/manager’s blessing before you are nominated.

Accomplishments

We held three Quarterly Trainings this year and all were excellent. The Grand Junction training included a Thursday night social that was a blast. We had a scavenger hunt and a wine tasting social afterwards. The code officer ladies from Westminster provided the wine – and some great conversation!

As part of our goal to upgrade all of our QT’s, we now allow the host community to spend up to $750 to pay for speakers, food and any room rental. We understand that great training is usually not free.

Looking Ahead

We have more work to do and more goals to achieve. One of the most important goals the Board has set is to re-start a Colorado Officer Certification program. The Education Committee will begin working on a certification program immediately. We hope to unveil the new certification program to you at the March Quarterly Training.

Wonderful Views

Speaking of Quarterly Trainings, we are looking for a couple of cities to host a QT- one on the West Slope and one of the Front Range. If you are interested in hosting a Quarterly Training, please talk to Lois Engbretson on our Education Committee or me. We’ll be glad to get you all of the information you need to host one of our four QT’s. Juan Flores from Fountain will also be hosting a “How to Host a QT” during our December QT.

We have also reduced the number of board meetings to 8 and the number of committee meetings to 4. The schedule for all of the Board and Committee meetings will be posted on our website.
